Somewhere in a book of very important facts, it states that if you obey all the rules, you miss out on all the fun🤷🏿‍♀️.

Who says that you can’t make it all happen your way?

Business doesn’t cancel out a good time. It’s about time you had the best of both worlds Star.

You deserve it all, and then some✨.

But remember, to beat the system you have to understand it first.

Trust us to fill you in on what 7 rules to break if you want to get ahead. Get right in…

    1. If It Isn't Broken, Don't Fix It 💔💔💔

They lied to you.

How can you expect to reach a place of full and blossoming creativity if you do not question the way of the world around you?

Why must you wait for a thing to be deemed “broken” in order to improve and grow?

Most wonderful and successful creations came from the minds of those who recognised the opportunity to create better, easier, faster and just more efficient not because something did not work decently but because they recognised the potential for it to work even better.

Be the person who is constantly moving forwards not the one happy happy to remain where they are and as they are simply because it is that much easier to do so.

  1. Only Speak When Spoken To 🗣🗣🗣

Consider the logic in only speaking when spoken to as someone who is trying to elevate their work, their networks, and their relations.

That’s right — there is none.

Don’t let other people’s shortcomings and limitations become your own.

Sure, going out there and making new connections can be scary and even intimidating at first. But guess what?

Practice makes perfect 🤩🤩🤩.

There is nothing you can’t do, you just need to get used to the motion of moving beyond your comfort to allow room for things that are much bigger.

Your voice defines the value you bring to the table, so bring it and use it unsparingly.

  1. Live For the Weekend 🥳🥳🥳

That is no way to live and you know it.

When there are seven days in a week, why would you be willing to limit yourself to experiencing life to the fullest only for two?!

As much as capitalism would like us to believe so, it's not sustainable to spend most of our time fighting for a tiny fraction of rest.

Being a creative affords you the opportunity to live BIG, loudly and honourably of your spirit 25/8 👏🏿.

Don’t be the gate-keeper to your own happiness by imposing restrictions on living a full life. Let your happiness extend to your craft and reflect your full life.

Let every day be an example of you living your best and most fulfilled life — you deserve it 🥺.

  1. Never Mix Business With Pleasure 🗂➕😊

Somewhere in your socialisation a terrible someone taught you that in work there is no room for fun experimentation or joy.

We’re here to tell you to relive yourself of that bondage, lay down the shackles and free yourself from someone else’s limited thinking.

This is YOUR world, get comfortable redefining what business looks like for you in a way that suits your creative needs and those you are providing a service/ selling your art to.

There is plenty of room for play within business, ✨New Comma✨ is the perfect model of that.

If we can do it, what is stopping you?🤔🤔🤔

  1. Do Your Research (Before You Do ANYTHING!)

Planning is great in fact, it is largely pivotal to the direction of your business.

But two things can be true at the same time.

Whilst meticulous planning is truly wonderful, so is spontaneity.

There are things that spontaneity offers you that planning won’t and vice versa.

Deciphering when to use either in conducting your operations will mean that your business eats the merits of both openness and new opportunity, whilst also benefiting from time dedicated to plotting and planning.

It’s important to not rely entirely on a plan when the world is, by nature, very uncertain.

Your creative instincts are great tools — trust them enough to rely on them, too.

  1. Treat Others As You Would Like To Be Treated

Of course, everyone deserves respect, there are no ifs or buts about it.

But there is a word of caution to add to this acknowledgement😅.

When people, businesses, organisations, and even customers show a lack of regard for you or what you do know to move on and beyond.

We don’t commend or encourage you breaking your back to be a good human being for those that refuse to pay you the same respects.

Respectfully, you’re worth a lot more than rubbish treatment and disregard so, know when to

Keep it moving🚗.

  1. Don't Ask Too Many Questions

Question everything🤓.

Nothing is untouchable, nothing cannot be deconstructed, inspected, assessed once and then reassessed.

If you’re going to be great at your craft, you must get to grips with things beyond your understanding so that you are constantly expanding.

Your thirst for knowledge must be insatiable. Every new thing or experience you encounter should be viewed as an opportunity to know more and to hone your craft.

Trust us on this, your favourite version of you asks the questions and gets the answers, growing wiser and more knowledgable in the process.

Part of being a creative is bravely making your own rules, ones which take into consideration the person you are and the kind of experience you want to have in creating.

Becoming a successful and fulfilled creative is a personal experience that you need to make work for YOU 👩🏿👨🏿‍🦱.

It’s not a one size fits all kind of industry, and you’re not a one size fits all kind of genius🦸🏽.

Don’t be afraid to go against social cues that, more often than not, were only instated to limit the expansive spirit that you are 🌱.

Remember — rules were made to be broken 📣.
